We believe that a Shetland free from sexual violence is a Shetland free from inequity, the root cause and consequence of violence. As an organisation, we are committed to taking an intersectional feminist approach to our work, and we advocate for the protection and promotion of the rights of women and girls, the rights of children and young people, anti-racism, accessibility, inclusion, and disability rights, LGBTI+ rights and inclusion, reproductive rights, and human rights more broadly.

We believe that a strong team includes a wide variety of perspectives, backgrounds, identities, skills, and life experiences, and we’re especially keen to hear from women whose perspectives are underrepresented such as women of colour, older and retired women, disabled women, and more.

In Scotland, all charities are overseen by a group of volunteers called Trustees. Trustees oversee the strategic direction of the charity rather than being involved in its day-to-day operations, and are a very important part of keeping charities safe and accountable to the people they serve.

We value commitment and shared values as much as qualifications and experience, and all Trustees will receive induction, training, and support to assist them with the role. Although this is an unpaid role, we do cover expenses.

Being a Trustee is a rewarding and enriching experience, with lots of opportunities for personal and professional development and training. This includes connecting with other Rape Crisis Centres across Scotland.
